Safer Neighbourhoods is about local policing; police and partners working with you, to identify and tackle issues of concern in your neighbourhood. They are dedicated to your local community at ward level.
Each team is normally made up of six Police and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). Their aim is to listen and talk to you, and find out what affects your daily life and feelings of security. These might be issues such as anti-social behaviour, graffiti, noisy neighbourhoods, yobs or vandalism. Then, they work in partnership with you and other agencies to find a lasting solution.
As part of MBC’s desire to support existing local community groups in Morden, Ruth Merriman, Community Worker at MBC, acts as chair for the Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panel Group for Merton Park (covering a large part of Morden Town Centre also).
“It is crucial that Christians and churches up and down the UK take an active interest in their local commmunities. Getting involved with Safer Neighbourhoods is one key way of demonstrating that we care about residents, businesses and other local groups, particularly in relation to their safety and well-being.” (Ruth Merriman)
